Questionnaire

This is the questionnaire that we gave to a group of people to receive some feedback on our media product.  Here is a summary of the responses:

How do think we made our piece appealing to our target audience of females?
The reaction from the viewers was that our film did definitely target a female audience; the music especially appealed more to females than to males.

Do you think we achieved good continuity in our film? How?

Our viewers commented that the transitions between each scene were smooth and the cuts were in the right places, so our media piece was fluid. They also mentioned that a consistency in the costume made our piece very continuous.

How effective were the opening scenes in setting up the characters for the rest of the film?
The main comments were that it was clear our characters were students, and that they would eventually fall in love.

What aspects of our film did you find particularly enjoyable?
Our viewers enjoyed the split-screen of Ophelia and Derek prior to their meeting on the stairs, and also the screech and abrupt halt of the music as Ophelia trips and falls on the stairs.

What are your thoughts on the music we chose?
Although not all of our viewers were sure about our choice of classic music at the start of our media production, they enjoyed the track we used at the end.

What do you think to the quality of the camera work/editing?
Our viewers agreed that the transitions were interesting and that the camera work was steady and of a high quality.

How do you think we managed to portray the genre of romance to the audience?
All of our viewers said that the parallel editing was the largest indication that the characters would fall in love, therefore making the film a romance.

If you had the chance to re-create our film, what would you improve/change?
Our viewers said that two things they would change would be the costumes and the music, to make them more fitting to the characters' personalities and to make the piece more appealing to the target audience.

The questionnaire Hannah and I gave to the viewers of our film indicates that the responses to it were generally very positive. A lot of people mentioned how clear it was to tell the genre of the film, through the parallel editing and the split-screen. They said that these features made the piece more interesting as they raised questions about the two characters, which made the audience want to watch the whole film and find out the answers.

In contrast, the points that the viewers noted as being not quite so strong were also points that Hannah and I had mentioned, such as the costumes, which, although consistent throughout our piece, could have been different to reflect Ophelia's quiet, intellectual nature and Derek's poorer, more working class background. Our viewers also mentioned the sound. The classical music, despite being described as romantic and a clear indicator of our genre, was one thing that many people would change. The dialogue exchanged on the stairs was a second issue with sound; the speech between Ophelia and Derek can be heard, but the background noise is still very loud and many of our viewers said that it was something they would change.

If Hannah and I were to make the film again, we have agreed that we would use different costumes for our characters and address the issue of background noise in the reception area more fully, perhaps by doing voice overs instead of using sound techniques on Premier to lower the background noises as low as we could.
